Throughout history the Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda never had any solid luck on the market of sedans. They have always been an outsider, even though there was a lot of money and talent involved. Class-leading models like Honda’s Accord and Toyota’s Camry simply block the way for any new-comer to cut through to the pedestal, and so, the Mazda “product” has always been under the shadows, so to speak.
However, that’s not entirely fair, because, despite the heavy marketing campaigns and strong fan-bases, the leaders are not actually that far ahead. That’s right, the latest Mazda 6 2016 can go toe-to-toe (or, rather, tire to tire) with the best in the business when it comes to cabin refinement, interior quality, legroom, headroom, comfortable seats, quality materials, tech-savvy, fuel-efficiency, entry-level equipment, and last, but not least, driving enjoyment (that’s when you have a great experience behind the wheel, as compared to the boring routine you get with most cars in the segment).
Arguably One Of The Best Mid-Size Sedans
In addition, the Mazda 6 boasts one of the coolest and most attractive exterior designs among mid-size sedans, and that, along with that sporty attitude, makes it one of the greatest offers in the industry. And that’s not all the amazing features of the Mazda 6 2016!
One of the Japanese model’s most impressive qualities is the strong performance and class-leading fuel-efficiency. It comes with the i-Eloop system that’s optional with the Grand Touring trim level and returns as much as 32 miles per gallon in combined driving (40MPG on the highway and 28MPG in the city), which is right among the very best on the market (that’s gas-powered sedans, not the hybrids and/or EV editions).
And if you can’t really afford that fancy i-Eloop, the standard Mazda 6 returns 31MPG combined, so, don’t worry about not getting the ultimate experience. For a family car that’s more than enough to appeal to the regular customer.
Mazda 6 2016: A Superb Four-Cylinder Engine
And despite the solid economy, the Mazda 6 2016 is faster than most of the 4-cylinder-equipped comrades: it jumps from 0 to 60MPH in 7.6 seconds. The 2.5-lit four-cyl is good for 184 Horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. And you’ve got a choice between a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission. Yep, that’s the only engine available, but, honestly, taking into consideration the impressive efficiency/speed numbers, it’s more than enough. Add a super-nimble characteristic on the road, precise steering and you’ll get the most fun-to-drive affordable mid-size sedan in the industry.
Speaking of affordable, I gotta tell you folks about the biggest downside of the latest Mazda 6: even though it’s a superb pick for all the sports car fans out there, the pricing is a bit too steep if you ask me. However, the basic-level trim (which is still pretty cool) costs 21.5K, so, you gotta think on this one for a while before you make that decision.
What About The Competition?
Alright, I know I’ve been praising the Mazda 6 2016 really good, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find any strong competition on the market. Aside from the aforementioned Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, which are, hands down, better than any offer in the segment, we’ve got the Nissan Altima with similar fuel-efficiency and an available V6. Text, there are the Kia Optima and the Ford Fusion – they both feature sharp designs, comfortable interiors and even turbocharged engines. The latest Subaru Legacy, on the other hand, offers a spacious cabin/interior, with tons of leg-/head-room and AWD (all-wheel drive).
At the end of the day, every last one of these cars will be a great choice for you and your family. Still, if you’re looking for a mid-size sedan that’s just a little bit more fun to drive and exciting, the latest Mazda 6 will offer you the best experience on the road.
