It’s no secret that the segment of small crossover SUVs in on the rise right now. You’ve got solid cargo capacity, an elevated driver’s seat (great for an enjoyable ride with the road right in front of you), impressive fuel-efficiency, and last, but not least, the ability to withstand even the harshest weather out there (remember, they’re still SUVs, even if small).
That’s right, at the moment this is one of the most popular markets of the automobile industry, and my guess is it’s here to stay. Therefore, as you could imagine, the competition is no joke: we’ve got all the giants in the industry, all the majors fighting over that tasty piece of pie, including Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai, Jeep, and all the rest of the moguls.
With all that said, the brand-new Mazda CX-5 2016 is easily one of the best picks today. Alright, so, what does make this car so special? Well, first of all, it’s an all-around solid pick, meaning you won’t find any significantly weak sides, and that’s already something quite rare.
Mazda CX-5 2016: All-Around Solid And Then Some
Second, with the latest CX-5 you’ll get superb safety scores, a nice, cozy and spacious cabin/interior, a smooth, refined and noise-free ride, comfortable and cozy seats (no, that’s not the same thing) and good visibility, thanks to the elevated driving position. This model also boasts quite a unique feature in the segment – a fun-to-drive experience behind the wheel and an enjoyable ride quality, all thanks to the precise steering, sporty handling and a fine-tuned suspension. With the mightier engine that’s available on most trims, the Mazda CX-5 2016 also offers an impressive combo of fuel-efficiency and performance.
And no matter what the task is – driving to work, taking your kids to school and back, running some kind of errands – this car feels super-good to be in and you won’t really get bored with it, even if you’re forced to practically live in it. That’s not something you can say about every small crossover SUV out there, so, thumbs up, Mazda! Let me put it to you this way: the brand-new CX-5 is your best friend on the next road trip and a good companion if you’re not a fan of noisy companies or crazy weekends and vacations/travels.
Mazda CX-5 2016 – The Powertrain Specs
The Mazda CX-5 2016 offers a choice between two powertrains, and they’re both pretty good.
The first one is a 2.0-lit 4-cyl engine, good for 155 HP and 150 lb-ft of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The second one is a 2.5-lit 4-cylinder that’s capable of 184 Horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both FWD (front-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) are optional, so, you’re free to choose.
The first powertrain returns 35 miles per gallon on the highway and 26MPG in the city (29MPG combined), while the second setup is good for 33MPG hwy/26MPG city (also 29MPG combined). Finally, the CX-5 with AWD and the 2.5-lit engine goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in quick 8.0 seconds, which is pretty awesome for a small crossover SUV.
Summing Up
Now, I gotta say that the 2.0-lit 4-cylinder doesn’t feel that great on the road. I mean, it’s solid and all, but you just don’t feel the car’s strength, you know? So, if you’ve got a couple of bucks to spare, go for the 2.5-liter and enjoy it. Plus, as mentioned above, it’s got quite an athletic character, and, even if you’re just in the market for a routine crossover to take you to work and back, you’ll soon start to appreciate the top-notch suspension, brakes and steering that the latest Mazda CX-5 2016 offers.
It’s equally great on the highways and in those tight city corners, so, don’t be afraid of clumsy handling or slow response. At the end of the day it’s a leader in the segment and one hell of a car if you want to feel the rush.
